This one keeps you guessing to the very end. A must read for fans of thriller suspense novels.

From its tense opening pages to its shocking climax, HIDE is a thriller that delves into our deepest, darkest fears. Where there is no one to trust. Where there is no place left to hide.

A true five star rating!

I found this book to be an easy, enjoyable read. It pulled me in right from the beginning. It alternates between first and third person narratives which I normally find somewhat annoying but I think really added to the character development in this story.

Annabelle is at the center of the mystery. Her family has been on the run as long as she can remember but from what? When her father, obsessed with keeping his family safe, dies, Annabelle is left with only questions about her past and the unknown threat from which she has spent her life running.

Bobby Dodge is the detective brought into consult on gruesome discovery on the grounds of the long-defunct state mental hospital. A piece of evidence at the scene ties Annabelle to what remains of a horrible crime. Discovering Annabelle's identity and how she is related to this crime is what drew me in.

The plot, while somewhat complicated, never gets terribly convoluted and things are tied up neatly in the end. I felt like the conclusion, though satisfactory, was a little rushed and a little too neat. However, the characters were enjoyable and it was a light, quick read. I'd recommend it as a great vacation/beach read. It was never slow and there is some light handed romantic interest that never goes over the top. Just enough of everything, I'd say to be an all-around good read.

Bobby Dodge first appeared in the book, "Alone". Reading that book first will help you a lot with understanding a few of the characters in this book.

This is the first thriller by Lisa Gardner that I have read and I really enjoyed it. It is the second book in the D.D. Warren series although Warren seemed more of a secondary character. The main focus of the novel was on Bobby Dodge, a sniper with the State police, who evidently had a previous affair with Warren. The pair are called to a very horrific crime scene, an underground chamber discovered on the property of a former Boston mental hospital containing six small naked mummified female bodies in clear garbage bags. A silver locket with one of the corpses, which may be decades old, bears the name Annabelle Granger. But is the corpse really Annabelle? No, Annabelle is actually alive and has been on the run with her family since childhood. Her father taught her self defense and would frequently move her and her mother to new cities, change identities, and live new lives. But why would he do this? Was it somehow related to the dead girls found near the old mental hospital?

This was really a good thriller. Annabelle plays a large role in the story (more so than D.D.) as she and the police try to identify the serial killer. Is he still out there and is he interested in Annabelle? Gardner throws out several different potential suspects and at the end, all was not as it first seemed. I have one other book by Gardner on my TBR shelves which I hope to read soon and I'll be on the lookout for more by her.

This book was so much better than the first in the series! I loved the first book but thought it was a bit confusing and I guessed the ending hslf way through. In this book I kept switching my ideas on what was going to happen and how it was going to end. It was surprising up until the last page. Hide was so good that I don't see how the rest in the series could even get better!
