I was hoping for a good anthology of creative and at least spooky or suspenseful gothic ghost stories, but the offerings in this volume were mediocre at best. I don't even want to spend the time providing a synopsis of them, honestly, other than to say that the first two were the best, and "The Chillingham Chair," which made me think of Zac Bagans's Devil's Rocking Chair (!) for some reason, wasn't too bad, either. A couple of them were incomprehensible, and just made no sense, and a couple of others were just boring and didn't offer much.
I'm not a great fan of short stories, honestly - they have to be from some serious literary luminaries for me to be interested, as they are far more difficult to write effectively than longer, novel-length works, and this book is a good demonstration of why that's the case.
Can't really recommend it, unless you don't have anything else on your list at the moment that might be better. This was actually given to me, so I just read it because it was there. I think this is one of the shortest reviews I've ever posted, because I didn't like it or hate it: it just wasn't anything worth writing home about.
