This is a brilliant summation of ancient history and how it affects us today. Since reading a great deal of ancient history this year, I wanted a course to tie up what I'd learned. This group of 48 lectures combined politics, wars, architecture, literature, philosophy, religion, science, and anything else Dr. Aldrete thought to add. As one would expect, the narrative begins in 3100 BCE in Mesopotamia. Dr. Aldrete has selected the most important and salient points of about 4000 years of history. I've read about the Punic Wars several times but Dr. Aldrete turned the Punic Wars into a rousing adventure tale! Overall, this was a wonderful listening experience. I plan to look for other courses Dr. Aldrete might offer in the Great Courses.
