I found this book to be a fascinating read. Perhaps because I love reading about little known events in American history. Obviously, this event was simply in the mind of the author, as this is a novel. I found I was constantly picking the book up to read, often ignoring other books I was reading at the same time.

Still, I am very familiar with Benjamin Franklin and his activities, and liked the author also paid some attention to historical accuracy. In fact, this is my first book by Jim Lehrer and I'm going to look for more of his fictional work.

It was also interesting Lehrer combined the historical mystery with a second plot about plagiarism by non-fiction authors. This is actually a serious problem and several well-known and famous authors have been found guilty of such. As a former member of a university faculty, I wasn't surprised at some of the 'deals' being made.
