Just beautiful! Karen White knows how to write well and tell an engrossing and wonderful story. Told in two voices, decades apart, you will be transported to the Lowcountry and enjoy every minute. Can't wait for her next effort!

I read one other book by Karen WHITE, Pieces of the heart, it was a great book until the end when she got all sappy. I dreaded the ending of this one expecting a similar sappy ending.

I really enjoyed this book, I preferred the WWII story to the present day story. I even wondered at times if the modern story was needed to make the story. Because basically the modern story is just digging deep into the past, piecing together clues. Then at one point I was convinced the modern story was needed to help us tell the WWII story.

I love books where you feel like you are visiting the city. The author has a way with words that makes you feel the ocean breeze and smell the salt air.

No sappy ending, and a new interest in U boats on the coast during WWII. I even googled bottle trees after the book. They were much prettier and more mystical in my head.
