I really loved this book, actually. Martha's writing style and voice were very easy to read and I got through it very quickly. It's quite an uplifting tale of someone who came from very little but always had love in her life, and used it to overcome some great obstacles. I think it's an important book- it touches on poverty, racism, the civil rights movement, sexual violence, and mental illness- and shows how someone with determination can rise above. There is quite a lot of religion discussed in the book as well and I'm not a super religious person, but I didn't mind it. I enjoyed reading the story from Martha's perspective and understanding all that went through her head beginning in her childhood and extending through her later adult years. A great read.
