This novel was okay, but In my opinion not his best work. The book was divided into two separate, although slightly linked, storylines. The main character (Harriet Blue) was taken out of the first storyline pretty quickly and thrust into her own completely separate mystery. While each separate storyline was interesting on its own, I felt that dividing the book into two separate stories diluted the storylines themselves. This whole book could've been centered upon just one story easily, making it richer and the characters more compelling.

I wasn't fond of the first book and didn't care much for the characters but wanted to give it another chance

I've read a couple by Candice Fox and like them but this series is not going to be good, it takes place in Australia and that gets old after a while so I just have to relate it to someplace else, like LA or NY

Harriet Blue is a tough cop and it might take a while to like her but with this book it might change the series a little after book 3 is done as it hopefully will end this one storyline of her brother, don't want to give a spoiler here so that's all I'll say

This holds 2 storylines and at times it is confusing as the chapters go back and forth from one story to the other without telling you at the beginning of each chapter which story you are reading

I did read the entire book but yet had to speed read through some of the pages as they don't say anything but just 'thoughts' 'emotions' etc and I don't like that kind of writing so I skipped a lot of pages and just went on with the stories and forgot all the other useless pages

Getting toward the end of the book the 2nd story got tiresome and I just wanted it over, the 1st story about her brother was a little better but the ending was not satisfying and here again I don't want to give a spoiler so that's all I'll say

So I think for me I can only give it 3*

This is a very good series so far. I haven't read Candice Fox before these books, and so far I'm impressed, and will probably read some of her other books because of these. She develops her characters, and you definitely connect with them.
