This was instantly published in 1991. This copy is missing the map but it is also printed on the cover. Details are offered on the tactics and weapons employed by Allied and Iraqi troops. The authors pooh-poohed the threat of chemical weapons but the VA today deals with the claims resulting from the burning of oil wells, etc.
This not a balanced evaluation of the opposing forces. "Although the comparisons between Hitler and Hussein can be pushed too far, the original purpose of the Republican Guard was very similar to the SS, a small, politically reliable paramilitary force intended to serve as the ruler's personal armed bodyguard. Its subsequent growth has been similar as well. Just as the SS later became a significant part of the German armed forces, absorbed a majority of its best equipment, and formed a heavily mechanized corps d'elite, so also has the Republican Guard." There are sidebars showing the should patch and order of battle (divisions) of the Republican Guard.
Note that it takes several pages to summarize the forces offered by other nations (and who also offered major financial support)s--the first President Bush took care of business. I myself cannot help but think of the Second Gulf War and how the Bush Administration and Congress has left a huge, continuing debt for future generations. The VA budget will be huge in the end and the interest costs are beginning to swamp us as I write this (2019).
