I have enjoyed all of Malfi's books that I have read. It's surprising to me how different each of them has been. I never know quite what to expect. I find that to be a good thing. This one is mostly a coming of age story but one with monsters (both real and imagined). It takes place in the 90s so the nostalgia was nice. It has scary scenes throughout and a surprising conclusion. But it is also a beautiful book of friendships, families and community.
This was a 50 star read! Its the best book Ive read in years!
Great story, akin to Stand By Me by Stephen King and if I had to pick between the two, Id choose this one.
I loved the town setting, the boys adventures or mis-adventures. Though a serial killer is on the loose, still I found lots of innocence..it reminded me of my own childhood, the relationships between the boys.
I cried in the end. I didn't want this great story to end. It should be a Hollywood film.
