Hamish Macbeth once again proves that one should not under-estimate this village constable. Beaton laces this cozy with depth and dark humor.

Story was a really cozy, quaint read. Enough detail and light on the fluff to keep me comeing back!

Big, red-headed Constable Hamish eventually sorts out what happened to Trixie Thomas, the newcomer who had such a wholesome influence on the Scottish village of Lochdubh that secretly no one could stand her.
Had me going, as usual! I keep guessing first one suspect and then another! And Hamish's personality is so quirky - I love it!

Beaton's Hamish Macbeth is always delightful. His slow rhythms, friendly bending of the law and keen mind make for very entertaining mysteries.

The BBC loosely based one of the episodes of the Hamish Macbeth television series on this novel. I found that comparing the two during the read was quite enjoyable.
