This was an ok mystery. Good if you like things about the KGB.

DEATH OF A DISSIDENT by Stuart Kaminsky: The first of Kaminksys Porfiry Rostnikov police procedurals. A dissident is murdered the day before a show trial where he had hoped to get his message to the western media. It quickly becomes clear that this isn't a KGB murder but that a mad man is out there. Kaminsky weaves and bobs us through multiple false clues and red herrings until the crime is finally solved. Although he paints a dreary picture of Moscow, the dynamics of the police - crime interplay are universal.
