As a heat wave stifles Kansas City, a death row inmate is served his final meal, makes his final confession, and uses his final breath to proclaim his innocence. And things get even more interesting once Lou discovers that four of the jurors on the original case died violently......while the rest have disappeared.
Now, with each sweltering day that passes, it becomes clearer that someone will do whatever it takes from making death threats to carrying them out to stop Mason in his tracks. The deeper he probes, the greater the danger---until the past and present collide in an explosion of deceit, corruption and murder......

Who else is able to make Kansas City sound like a hotbed of danger and intrigue? Very enjoyable book in the attorney Lou Mason series.

A previous reviewer is quite right, you get the unholy effects of summer heat in Kansas City vividly depicted in this legal thriller. I enjoyed Joel Goldman's lawyer, Lou Mason, as a man who works with his mind, amid tragic events, and he has a viewpoint. His characters seem real; lots of women as cops, relatives and just those caught in tragedy, displaying all the emotions; they are just as confused and ignorant about what to do as most real life people in the same circumstances; par for the course. Mason cares for them all; and tries to find answers. And the evil characters are exactly that, without remorse. My kind of guy; not a hard,
