A very enjoyable story surrounding the Creole culture in New Orleans in mid 1800's. Concerns a group of master swordsmen who have been trained in France and Spain and own their own training salons in New Orleans and who swear to defend the helpless and put their expertise to good use. They are just a bit beyond the pale as far as Creole high society is concerned but one of them finds a girl who was drugged and left in a cemetery. He rescues her and so begins an intriguing, mysterious romance that involves all the maitre d'armes and some of the best Creole society with plenty of duels and concerns for etiquette of the time. Historical romance, exciting and entrancing.

loved this story. The characters are fantastic and I really enjoyed this story and I think Jennifer did a masterful job with building the romance and introducing and forshadowing the stories of her next heros. I have to say it was refreshing that it wasn't instant sexual gratification, but a building of the two together. Caid being so honorable that I could not help but love him and Lisette so indepenant and head strong. It was brilliant. I found the anticipation for when the characters would come together exciting. And I fell in love with her Masters at arms. I'm so looking forward to the other men's story and meeting some more in her next works. I just adored these characters.

New Orleans in 1840. Swordsmanship, schemers, and a murderer. Mix it all with romance and you have another great Jennifer Blake read.

***Enjoyable romance set in New Orleans in 1840's. Very likable heroine and hero.
A gentleman that thought he had put a woman in distress by killing her husband in a duel, felt responsible for her well being until she could find someone for a husband. She wanted him, and she did things to try and entice him to do her that honor. Loved the book.
Publisher's Note
When Lisette Moisant, the victim of schemers who want her fortune, turns to Caid O'Neill, the maitres d'armes who bested her despicable husband in a duel, for protection, they find themselves immersed in scandal and accusations when someone begins spreading vicious lies about them.

Good romantic suspense story set in early America.
They are perhaps the most dangerous men in New Orleans, skilled swordsmen who play by no rules but their own-heroes to many, wicked to some, irresistible to the women they love...
Lisette Moisant is a widow, curtesy of the swordsmanship of Caid O'Neill, one of the city's legendary maitres d'armes. He bested her loathsome husband in a duel, but now she is a pawn of schemers who wish to steal her fortune and see her dead. It is Caid to whom she turns for protection, and guilt leaves him no recourse but to agree to Lisette's request.
But soon a whispering campaign is being waged against them, suggesting the two plotted to kill Lisette's husband all along, that she is a woman of loose morals and he is nothing short of a murderer. In a society where reputation is everything, the scandal and accusations threaten Lisette and Caid with ruin, and the person responsible with stop at nothing until they have paid with their lives.

I found this story to be plodding.
