The protagonist, at the beginning, is referred to merely as he. Eventually he gets a name. He is a businessman, but also owns a large farm that is managed for him by a tenant farmer. I got half-way through before I bogged down and threw in the towel. To me it became rambling, disconnected, and downright boring. I leave this one for the critics, die-hards, and pedants.
