Generally, I gotta say I cannot stand when people are like, "If you like Harry Potter, you'll just LOVE this book!" It's been said about Charmed Life, and I have to admit, in this case I think it's true. Very similar milieu of British schoolchildren and special schooling for the magically gifted...
(Still... when a friend of a friend said, "I really can't believe how cool this Harry Potter book is! It's *amazing*! I mean, it's like the author creates A WHOLE NEW WORLD!"... I'm like, umm... it's a genre... not really an innovative concept... Ditto for all the hoop-la about Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. It's a VERY good movie - but there're a Whole Lot of Chinese Historical-Fantasy Action movies - it's not like a new thing! But I guess if the popularity of something introduces people to something new, it's a good thing... OK- end tangent...)
