The quote is from my first edition--NY: Harcourt, Brace, and Co., 1938.
"Shaker architecture and crafts were taking an important place in Sheeler's considerations as an artist, similar to that of the buildings and crafts of Bucks County. They belong to the same general order of communal expression, even though the Shakers were more closely united than any of the groups of settlers in Pennsylvania who gave their practical arts distinctive forms."
