Sheriff Bree Taggert and her team take down wanted murderer Travis Elkin with the help of her new K-9 unit. Travis' mother and brothers threaten Bree, telling her that they will get even. Meanwhile, Dana Romano has agreed to meet Dr. Kent McFadden for dinner at his home. When she arrives, she fights with a masked intruder who eventually escapes out the door. Kent has been shot and Dana works to try to save his life. This incident falls into Redhaven Police jurisdiction. Chief Hanover is heading up the investigation. His sole suspect is Dana. Bree, along with Investigator Matt Flynn, work their own investigation to find who really killed Dr. McFadden.

I was so happy to get back into Bree Taggert's world. I've missed these books and these characters. In this one, Dana takes the lead in the story. We get her point-of-view about what happened that night, and her shock at being named the suspect in a murder. We also see that Matt's older brother Nolan may be a perfect match for Dana.

There was a lot going on in this book. As Bree and Matt try to find McFadden's killer, they are also busy trying to protect the family when the threats against Bree escalate. Everything is pointing to the Ekin family being behind these threats. But when Bree tries to interview one of the brothers, things go sideways.

I usually read these books on my kindle, but this time I listened to the audiobook narrated by Christina Traister. I thought she did an outstanding job with the many characters in this series. My rating: 5 Stars.
