This is an amazing book that is a must read for anyone who loves animals. I laughed and cried while reading this book. It is about a group of people who run an animal sanctuary. It is very touching.

Definitely worth reading, all you animal lovers!

I agree with Jennifer's review, that the writing in this book is not of the best. It reminded me a bit of the way people write about the lives of the saints. That said, I imagine it was hard for the author to give ample attention to all of the heroic people who founded Best Friends and work/worked there and tie all that in with the animal experiences.

It is a touching story and made me cry several times. I am very glad I read it and learned about the sanctuary. If I had not picked a different avenue of volunteer service in life, this book might very likely have made me want to go work there.

It is nice to know that there are such great people out in the world. I had never heard of this place, it was a good heart warming story. There is now a show on animal planet about it. Must read if you have adopted or fostered pets.

Wow, how moving! Makes one want to go out and volunteer at their local shelter. And, it makes those of us who already do, feel like we are doing what we need to be doing. If you don't work in a shelter, go and help out these innocent victoms of stupid people. This book was moving and brought many moments of happiness to me. A must read about a grass roots operation in the beginning of their journey. You'll want to go along on this ride!

The uplifting story of a group of friends who founded one of the largest domesticated animal sanctuaries in the world, saving thousands of homeless pets in the process.

I loved this book! It tells how Dogtown was started and all the trials and tribulations they had keeping it going. The book was well written. I laughed and I cried as I was reading it. Having rescued two dogs I was especially interested in this story. It was interesting how they discovered this canyon, and had the foresight to envision their dogtown there. Anyone who loves animals would love this book.

This is a great story, and I fully support Best Friends (I want to visit one day), but the author of this book is not the best writer - kind of like reading a children's book. This would actually be a good book for kids to read - to help them learn to respect animals.

In the summer of 1982, a group of young men and women pooled their resources and bought 3,000 acres of high desert in the wilds of southern Utah. Nineteen years later they had brought into being the most beloved animal sanctuary in the world--The place called, simlpy, Best Friends.

This book is filled with amazing stories, the love for animals there just made my heart burst with happiness and my face smile. It also broke my heart and made me cry. But above all it made me so thankful that there are people like those at Best Friends who truely care. I enjoyed reading the stories Best Friends offered in this book. A full 5 stars!!
