With an alcoholic mother and mom's awful boyfriend making life unbearable, teenage Clare runs away in Atlantic City. If she'll face a dangerous thievery test she can become part of a gang of homeless kids who live by their wits. But this type of life is pretty awful too. Interesting teen story - An American Library Association Notable Children's Book. This copy is a discarded library paperback in strong clean condition.
