This book is about an 18-year-old boy who enlisted in the army during WWII. It is about the things he learns about himself as he experiences war. I thought that while at times heartbreaking, it was a good book.
This is a interesting view of a young boy who finds himself drafted into the Army during WW2 and discovering that he is, in fact, a coward. How he copes with this in the middle of wartime is an interesting read along with his brushes with greatness. Deep, but fun!
Spare prose laying out the fear and trauma of a young mid-west farmer when exposed to the brutality of the European battlefield during WWII. Intense study of individual response to fear. Well written
