Patterson/Ledwidge are back on track with this latest Michael Bennett thriller! After being a little disappointed with the last outing, Burn, I was glad to see this book was a straight-forward good page-turner without too many side stories and distractions as in Burn.

In this one, New York is being terrorized...first by a subway explosion, the mayor is then assassinated by a long-range sniper, and then a large section of New York is brought to a standstill by an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) device which burns out the electrical grid including car batteries, cell phones, etc. Bennett is teamed up with his old friend, the FBI's Emily Parker, to catch the shadowy criminals who claim responsibility-but they're as good at concealing their identities as they are at wreaking havoc. But are there more attacks to come? Are Islamic terrorists behind it or could it be the work of a lone attacker? Along the way Bennett and Parker travel to Colorado to interview the unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, who provides them with some insight on the type of person involved in the attacks.

During this outing, Bennett's love interest, Mary Catherine, is taking care of some family business in Ireland, however, love is expressed on both sides. Maybe they will finally get married in the next book!

Good page-turner, keeps your interest from the first page. Family side-storyline keeps it grounded.

I enjoyed this Michael Bennett book and I thought the story about some nut cases trying to destroy NYC was exciting and kept me glued to the end. However, it is time Michael and Mary Catherine got married already.

I enjoyed the earlier books in this series. It has deteriorated over time. Bk 7 was poor and this one is just nonsensical. I gave up buying Patterson books at retail long ago. I think it is no longer worth wasting a credit to get them for "free"

For anyone who has been following the Michael Bennett series, you know what you get. New York City seems to be always besieged with troubles, pitting Bennett right in the middle of everything. His ten kids and his grandfather are the most terrific fictional family I've ever read about.

If you haven't read a Michael Bennett book, please don't start here. Go back to the beginning with Step On A Crack. Trust me ... you will not regret it!

In this outing, someone is trying to systematically level New York City. Gas is piped through the underground and remotely detonated. The entire subway system is shut down.

Drones loaded with explosives fly into the FBI Building and decimate it.

The current Mayor is shot and killed by a robotic device from atop a tall building.

Ted Kaszynski, better known as the Unabomber, contacts the FBI from prison ... he gives them a profile of sorts for the people responsible with a dire warning of his own ... All this destruction is just the beginning and the loss of life will be like nothing ever seen before ..not even the 911 tragedy.

Emily Parker from the FBI joins Bennett in a race to stop these madmen before anymore lives are lost.

Excellent Book! Excellent Series! 5 Stars with no hesitation.

Only three stars because of some of the plot line being a little unrealistic. The idea that Det Bennett could accompany so many other agencies is a little hard to accept. And Patterson dropped the ball on the one character that I do not care about at all in this series, that being FBI agent Emily Parker. A perfect opportunity to kill off the character and he passes. The ending was anticlimactic.
