Loved this book. I started reading these out of order, but it doesn't really matter. You really get to know these characters and fall in love with them. Debbie Macomber has done an excellent job with this series.

I'm sure this is in the category of âwomen's fiction,â if there is such a thing. I did not think I would like this book very much, nor the series. However, I found myself swept away by the first book in the series, 16 Lighthouse Road, and went straight to this book after finishing it! I never go from book to book in a series, but read something in between. Not this one! I was so interested and invested in the characters that I wanted to keep going. I'm not a typical romance reader, but while this series and book have romantic relationships, it doesn't feel like a âromanceâ novel. It is very well written and quite compelling! I really have enjoyed getting to know the characters!

2nd in the series.

Wonderful book abt several people in one town (Cedar Cove, Washington) just a ferry ride away from Seattle. All the characters have secrets, pasts, mysteries, troubles, etc. This series explores more of each of them in each book - esp. focusing on the residents of the title address.

"Macomber is known for honest portrayals of ordinary women...this cements her position as an icon of the genre." -Publishers Weekly

I was really looking forward to this book because Grace is one of my favorite characters but the book overall was a disappointment. I loved Grace's story but that was about it.

Maryellen's treatment of Jon was atrocious, all because of a man from her past that hurt her. Come one. She is 35. It seemed ridiculous for her to be stuck on one bad relationship.

Seth and Justine's story was quite sweet but it was quite minor.

Although I didn't like Rosie or Zach I do appreciate Macomber representing two people who are both at fault for the end of a relationship but fail to see it. I couldn't side with either because they both played a part which I do like. But the story wasn't very interesting.

My main complaint about this book was that there are a lot of unanswered questions and open ends. It's like this was just a stepping stone book with no real ending. I don't mind when one or two things are left open ended but it seemed nothing was resolve at all. I ended up asking myself why I read this in the first place when I got to the last page.

This is a good series for taking breaks between other series. Reading it is restful and the characters become like old friends you know. It really is like listening to some good gossip. I don't know if one book alone would be that satisfying but starting from the beginning and working your way through soothes and entertains.

Book Description
Grace Sherman
204 Rosewood Lane
Cedar Cove, Washington

Dear Reader,

If you've been to Cedar Cove before we've probably met. You can usually, find me either at home or at the public library, where I work. I've lived in this town all my life and raised two daughters here. But my husband and I -- well, about six months ago, he disappeared. Just . . . disappeared. Where's Dan? Why did he go? Who's he with? Will I ever find out?

My hometown, my family and friends, bring me comfort during this difficult time. Comfort and a sense of shelter. I'm continually reminded that life can and does go on. For instance, everyone's been discussing weddings and babies lately. Justine -- the only daughter of my best friend, Olivia Lockhart -- impulsively got married a little while ago. My own daughter Kelly recently had, a baby. Unfortunately, she refuses to accept that Dan might not return to see his first grandchild. My older daughter, Maryellen, is more realistic. I think she's seeing a new man, but for some reason she won't tell me who it is.

Then there's Jack, who's been pursuing a romance with Olivia, and his son, Eric, and Eric's girlfriend, Shelly (I think she's pregnant), and Zach and Rosemary Cox, whose marriage is reputedly on the skids and . . . Well, just come on over and we'll talk!

Grace

Wonderful series - you really don't need to begin with the first book, 16 Lighthouse Road, which is the first in Debbie's Cedar Cove series of books, even though this is the second one. Each book fills the reader in with all what has happened previously.

I have read each one in this series except the last one, which I am anxiously awaiting to read. I'm in the middle of 1105 Yakima Street.

Highly recommend this series and any of Debbie's books.

Life goes on in the small coastal town of Cedar Cove, Wash., as real life does everywhere with small dramas and personal epiphanies in this sedate slice-of-life drama. The last time readers visited Cedar Cove in Macomber's 16 Lighthouse Road, family court judge Olivia Lockhart had refused to grant a divorce to a young couple trying to come to terms with the loss of their infant daughter. This time around, Olivia has problems of her own; her ex-husband wants her back, which makes her on-again, off-again relationship with newspaper editor Jack Griffin even rockier. Elsewhere around town, Olivia's daughter finally follows her heart and marries her high school sweetheart instead of the troublemaking older man she'd been dating; Zach and Rose Cox find their marriage falling apart when Rosie begins neglecting her family for volunteer work; and Maryellen Sherman, the manager of the local art gallery, becomes pregnant after a brief affair with an artist. Despite all these goings-on, the book's main focus is librarian Grace Sherman, whose husband of 35 years is still missing after disappearing six months earlier.

Residents of the close-knit community of Cedar Cove, Washington, have always assumed that Grace Sherman, the town librarian, is as demure as she appears - but they couldn't be more wrong. Underneath Grace's demure exterior, is a spine of steel that quickly surfaces when she must face the strange and sudden disappearance of her husband, Dan.

So, Cedar Cove bands together around one of its own, and Grace's family and friends bring great comfort to her during such a difficult time. But Grace is reminded that life can and does move on - and, amid the various weddings and births, and other major life events that occur in Cedar Cove - she must be strong enough to help her family deal with their own confusion and devastation at Dan's absence. However, will Grace's love, devotion, and dedication to her family in the face of such a personal tragedy, ultimately prove sufficient to keep them all together?

I must say that I haven't read that many books by Debbie Macomber before. The Shop on Blossom Street was my first one - and that was on a recommendation from my sister who lives in Australia. I'm usually not that much of a romance fan, but this book was a fast-paced and engaging story that I really enjoyed. Dan's disappearance certainly played an important role in the story - however, the romantic elements of the story weren't overwhelming; which is also something that I appreciated. I give this book a definite A!
