This explanation and history of the Miami Indians offer exciting insights that are pretty informative. Native populations died off quickly from European diseases (to which they had no immunity), alcohol, and the better-equipped enemies. European nations provided weapons to their Indian allays and pulled them into their conflicts -- with other Europeans and native tribes.

The fascinating story of Little Turtle's War with the Americans is laid out clearly for readers. Little Turtle, a Miami, decimated one-fourth of America's military force in a single battle. This stunning blow to America's elevated view of itself (after all, they had just won a war against mighty England a short time earlier) caused the government to change its military system. Interestingly, History books write far more about Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse than Little Turtle. Yet, Little Turtle's clever understanding of his foe, and his ability to outsmart the soldiers in the field, should have made him a legend.

This overview of the Miami Indians was just what I was looking for; it covers the highlights of their culture and explains their interactions with the Americans who removed them from their lands.
