It is getting harder to read about interactions between indigenous peoples and immigrant settlers because the meetings were so one-sided. The federal government saw all problems as - them against us. But unfortunately, the Sac and the Fox were small tribes. They were part of the Algonquian group of Indian nations.

Since they were part of the Algonquian confederation, one would expect them to come from the Northeast (specifically Wisconsin and the Great Lakes). Then the federal government pushed the Sac and Fox to Iowa and Missouri. Finally, with another crummy treaty, the Fox and Sac landed in Oklahoma, where they reside today.

This book shows how these two groups got pulled into various wars (the War of 1812 is one) and received little for their efforts. Even when these tribes stayed neutral, they lost. This book is well-written, but the results were still dismal for the Sac and the Fox.
