Whitney has had a shitty December. She was up for a promotion and didn't get it (she was passed over for a "nice" man with a family and who plays golf with the boss. Stuart goes home on time. Whitney worked overtime and was the one who got the big account). And then her car breaks down (she was planning on getting a new one anyway, but still). I was so pissed for her. She finds herself in a bit of a mid-life crisis. Enter time with her family for Christmas. And her ex college boyfriend, the One Who Got Away. It turns out Eli did know Whitney was Brenden's sister, but her brother did not know.
Family chaos ensues. They are close knit, but can be "real" with each other. This family was so much fun. Whitney does get her mojo and confidence back. Eli was pretty good too who had his own childhood trauma that he had not dealt with at the time he was first dating Whitney. As a result of that, he was very empathetic and able to read the family pretty well. Both he and Whitney are good examples of characters who can survive on their own, but thrive together.
