I sent a book on the 19th. It was meant to be delivered in the NYC area on the 25th. Since the 26th PO tracking has maintained the following status and message:

The delivery status of your item has not been updated as of October 26, 2023, 12:10 am. We apologize that it may arrive later than expected.

I will pursue this either by going to the PO from which I sent it with my receipt or online, but has anyone else dealt with this situation? How?

Thanks

It's happened to me a couple of times with other deliveries. The item is usually delivered a few days later. I know that the NYC area had some flooding last month. So that might be the problem.

Earlier this month I was awaiting  a book from a game here.  It reached Orlando distro center then went back north to Jacksonville, then suddenly ended up in Puerto Rico!  Then the trail of stops was removed from the tracking site and saw similar message to what you got.

Today one of the books I've requested and been waiting for has come with the same USPS message.

eta: the odd thing is I just checked my account and I'm not waiting on any books, it's just that I mailed 4 more on Monday and there's the one this post is about.

Yes, the book came while I was in CO so the poor sender had to wait til my return to hear the book arrived in pristine condition despite it's vacation to PR.

I've had that message several times. The books did arrive, just a little later than estimated.

I have a DVD on SwapaDVD that I sent to Wyoming, Michigan on October 16. It became lost within 15 minutes of the city - in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I started a missing mail search yesterday. Tracking is 9549011779573289322225

GLad to know that books marked this way by the PO do eventually arrive, but the one I sent has been stuck in PO limbo since 26 Oct which makes it a week now. Pity. I wish it would get to the requester finally.

One year recently my grands Christmas packages got stuck sitting at the Baltimore distribution center for ten days-- it is located just 15 mins from their house. PO had promised delivery 6 days before Christmas so I was very upset that it was mid January before the packages finally arrived.

My calls with complaints revealed that the PO knows Baltimore is a sticking point now (since changes made by De Joy).  --funny thing though, when I order from Amazon, Walmart, or Target, even when USPS makes the delivery, they don't get ' STUCK'  at the distro center.

Hope you're right about the last bit of your comment, Jeanne. I just ordered from Better World Books. The books are shipped from Indiana, not treally all that far away from Iowa. There's one book in this lot that I'm very keen to read.

The book mentioned in the OP has been marked lost by PBS. Since I didn't use PBS postage I lose the credit. I have plenty of credits but I'm ticked at losing the postage money spent on sending a book that now looks like it will forever reside in PO limbo.

If it arrives, the other member can mark it "received" from her Transaction Archive, and you'll get credit.

I've found that calling the Post Office with the tracking number can help. On several occasions, the fact that someone in the Post Office looked into the situation with the package was enough to get the package on its way again.

Thanks, Patty. The current postmistress isn't particularly helpful but I'll give it whack anyway.

Well, here's a surprise. I checked the tracking # before going to the local PO to ask them to put a tracer on it---again. Now the USPS message reads:

"We now anticipate delivery of your package the next business day. We apologize for the delay."

Considering it was originally out for delivery on 25 Oct, the above message surprises me. Will see what happens.

Now it's flipped back to 'awaiting delivery on 26 Oct.'

Looks like I'm out the postage money.

Marya,

I recently ordered 21 books from Better World Books when it had a 40% off sale for used books. I was able to get some books which have been on my WL here for years. Most will end up being posted here.  The books were shipped in three different packages from three different places. Three books from the UK were shipped almost immediately and arrived in the U.S. very quickly. They then spent two weeks or more sitting in New Jersey. Just got them today. One package from Indiana shipped a week later and got here last week. The third package from Reno with 16 books shipped last but got here first. I also received amother six books today I requested from members here. So I received nine books today and they filled my mailbox completely. The mailbox also had four mail order catalogs and several envelopes. But all of these were for my neighbor across the street.

Do you think all of this may be just a postal employee protest agaisnt DeJoy?   laugh

Tom, I order regularly from BetterWorldBooks. Even the books from England come quickly, quicker than a card my friend in Kent sent back in October which just arrived Friday. Who's to know what goes on at the PO. When I complain the local Post Mistress never accepts any words against DeJoy but reminds me to be patient because our particulalry delivery fellow "is OCD."

I wish people would quit referring to it as "OCD." The correct order is "CDO."  That way the letters are in alphabetical order......

..... LIKE THEY SHOULD BE !!!!!!

Comparison: I sent a friend in England a package---yes siree, it contained a book---on 17 Nov. It was delivered today, 21 Nov.

The OP here is about a book sent inside this country on 19 Oct. It still has not arrived. The local PO has an 'alert' on the package, told me to email the PO online, but the PO doesn't want to hear anymore about this online although they are offering to refund the postage cost.
