This culture thrived from about 1000 - 1500 CE along the banks of the Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio Rivers. Because this culture did not use writing, most of the information available here is from scholarly studies and artifacts. Amazingly, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington investigated the Mound Builders.

These mounds were burial sites, elites' residences, and ritual platforms. Scientists still study these amazing mounds, hoping to discover more about the Indigenous Peoples.
