Lots and lots of authors covered, with interesting information about them and places associated with them. I never knew that Robert Louis Stevenson was associated with this area and went there to marry a Californian. The index of authors is extensive but here are a small number of those covered in this book: Maya Angelou, Robert Louis Stevenson, Jack London, Mark Twain, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, John Steinbeck, Bret Harte, Dashiell Hammett, and many many more. This was interesting to me even though I've never been to San Francisco and am not planning to follow a walking or driving tour using the book. Great armchair travel book!
