The purpose of this book is to share with readers some of the more unusual riots in the late 19th-century in America. Certainly, the riot with a unique name was the Dead Rabbits Riot. It took place in the Five Points area of New York City. They were Irish thugs that sold protection for the local taverns and anyone else who would pay their price. The next one is the Richmond Bread Riot that took place during the Civil War when the working poor couldn't afford bread and rioted. The government didn't want the soldiers to be upset their mothers and sisters were rioting because they were hungry so the newspapers said the rioters were unhinged immigrants.

Each of these riots is fascinating in its own right. We never hear of such happening, yet they occurred because people thought they weren't being heard. This is a fascinating story and Charles Rivers also has one called, "The History And Legacy Of America's Most Unusual Riots In The Early 19th Century."
