Stabenow's series is a quick and enjoyable read - not a lot of deep thought, but stories move quickly and the information about Alaskan culture is my favorite feature of this series.

I continue to just love this series! Kate Shugak is a marvelous heroine, the history of Alaska and the antics of the native people is just enthralling.
In this installment, Kate goes undercover on an Alaskan crab boat where two crew members disappeared. The story is very detailed regarding the crabbing industry. Lucky for me I just watched Deadliest Catch on Thanksgiving, so everything they were doing was something I could picture which made my understanding of the danger and freezing temperatures that Kate was experiencing that much more real and horrifying. Poor Kate didn't just have one trip to endure, this boat went out three times before Kate got the evidence she needed to end her torturous adventure. As usual, a terrific mystery detailing the dangers and beauty of Alaska.

Dead in the Water was one of the best books I have read in this series by Dena Dtabenow. I find her books to be well writtin and I like the fact that each book focuses on a different aspect of Aliskan life. This book is about crab fishing in the cold waters off Alaska and I learned a lot and was able to feel what it must be like. ther was also a mystery that was difficult to sort out and intersting to follow. I would recommend this book to others.
