Amazingly, Casanova lived to be 73 years old. In his day and time, that was quite old. I would have expected him to have died of syphilis years earlier with his philandering ways. I was surprised to learn that he was bisexual. Casanova wrote a twelve-volume autobiography explaining his exploits.
Casanova was fortunate he lived when he did; it was reasonably easy to construct a new persona (especially when he traveled). The only legal group he had to fear was the Inquisition. My jaw dropped to see how many luminaries Casanova crossed paths with, including Pope Clement XIII, Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin, and King George III (of England).
This book clearly outlines Casanova's negative skills, such as con man, liar, rapist, alchemist, gambler, thief, and prison escapee (to name a few). The man had no moral compass. Because his unfortunate parents left him with his maternal grandmother while they took the two younger children, Casanova never experienced unconditional parental love. He spent the rest of his life searching for it.
Because of his innumerable scrapes and incredible experiences, Casanova must have been brilliant. In addition, he was an accomplished musician, earning a living in a professional orchestra. Although he earned a clerical law degree, leading to a religious vocation (of short duration), Casanova was astute in matters of medicine and many other skills.
I've read about Casanova before, but this ebook analyzes his character and times to a greater extent than average. This book is fascinating.
