"Arousing Suspicions" Marianne Stillings  I found it a tad hard to get into the subject of 'Dream Interpretations" but ended up enjoying the heck out of this book. It also had a Folklore tidbit at the beginning of each chapter which were a hoot. ( A)

Update: (8/20) So, I was disappointed to find the SAME characters in two of these books, but the plotlines made it impossible for either to be a prequil to or a sequel to the other.  They read like "parallel universes", where different things happen to the same character, in the same time frame, and totally incompatible with the events in the book.

Into the Storm, Suzanne Brockmann (Contemporary) - I gotta admit, I'm a sucker for a SEAL.  This isn't Brockmann's best, but I enjoyed Jenk's story and am looking forward to more of Sophia and Decker.  And the serial killer was waaay creepy! B-

A Lady Of Distinction - Deborah Simmons (Historical Regency) - A bluestocking with a passion for Egypt and an adventurer are working together and mysterious "accidents" keep happening.  The book dragged through the middle and the ending was very rushed.  C

Wideacre, Phillipa Gregory(Historical Fiction) I have a hard time rating this book; I couldn't stand the "heroine" but it was like watching a train wreck, I just had to keep reading.  C

Taylor's Temptation - Suzanne Brockmann (Contemp) One of the Tall, Dark, and Dangerous series about Brockmann's original group of SEALs.  B

River of Tomorrow  - Dorothy Garlock (1870's Southern Illinois) I wanted to like this book, but I ended up skimming it, just not that interesting to me.  D

In September I have read: (may contain spoilers)

1. Almost Innocent-Jane Feather-I have always like Jane Feather.  I enjoyed the love story between Magdalen and Guy even though sometimes I had issues woth some of the circumstances.  This is one of those age difference ones that gets me.  The hero was once the heroine's guardian.  There is, however, a great love story.  There is also some intrigue which is nice.     B+
2. Legend-Jude Devereaux-I love Jude Devereaux.  This story was one that I could not put down.  I just had to know what would happen next.  There is time travel and some paranormal stuff involved.  I truly liked the story!   A-
3. Lord of Seduction-Nicole Jordan-This was a new author for me.  For the most part I liked the story.  It is set in regency England and there is scandal and intrigue.  However, I was unimpressed by the love scenes.  There were a lot of my pet peeves in there.  Except for that I liked the story and the romance between the hero and heroine.   B-

Good Gravy Wendy...did you ever sleep??? LOL. I had only a measly 6 or so books read this month. Oh well. I thought that I would continue every month and just edit the original post and then throughout the rest of the thread here I would add my reviews with a reference page number on my original post. What does everyone think? Or maybe it would be easier to include a link to my review that I prolly should write up for the pbs site to begin with.

Anyway, not sure which way I will go with that, but after reading the lists I am totally wanting to know everyone's thoughts on the books they read. Which ones were better and which ones were terrible. Am I the only one?

Here are my reviews for July's books.

• The Hunters: Interlude by Shiloh Walker- An Ellora's Cave book.
  I love Shiloh Walker, but her hunter series is getting a bit annoying.
  It's always the same thing, but as always they are hot. B-
• Charmed & Dangerous by Candace Havens- I loved this book.
  About a witch who works to protect the prime minister. I can't wait for
  the next one. A
• Nightlife by Rob Thurman- An urban fantasy about a half human
  half elf and his brother. In this world, elves are evil. Once again, I
  can't wait for the next book in the series. A+
• Kiss of the Vampire by Nancy Baker- A vampire story. Not romance, more horror I think. Excellent. I loved this book and its sequel. A++
• Wolf Tales by Kate Douglas- An Aphrodesia erotica book about werewolves. Not the greatest I've ever read. It's writing comes off as being written by a first time erotica author, which is not something I like. The story like was interesting to say the least. I would read the rest in the series, but I wouldn't buy them C+
• Deep, Dark & Dangerous by Jade Black- Another erotica, this time about vikings who live undergroud, and kidnap wives from aboveground. I am not a huge fan of Jaid Black because she has a way of making women extremely submissive and they are usually treated horribly in her books. This one was no exception, but it was in a much "softer" way then is usual for her. Not too much sex, but what there was, was done well enough to make up for the lack of it. All in all it was my fav book by Black. B+
• Blood and Chrysanthemums by Nancy Baker- The seqel to Kiss of the Vampire. The 2 books are about the same characters, but are written so differently. This one was just as great as the first. It left me happy and feeling good. A++
• A Stranger's Desire by Kimberly Raye- A story about an incubus who works for Satan, and the woman who falls in love with him. Not a book I would read again. It had a good storyline, and had some good side plots, but they never came through. I was more interested in the secondary characters, then in the main two. D
• Private Demon by Lynn Viehl- Paranormal vampire romance, 2nd to If Angel's Burn. I liked this book better then the first one. I was more interested in this one, and I liked the characters better. I am hopeful for the next one. B+
• The Hunted by L.A. -3rd in a series, after Minion and The Awakening. Better then the last 2 books in the series, however Banks still needs to work on her dialouge skills. At times the book is too difficult to understand, and there needs to be more action and less talking. C
• Size 12 is Not Fat by Meg Cabot-A chick lity mystery book about an ex teen pop star. I really liked this book. It was fun and light and it kept my interest. A
• Immortal Bad Boys by various- 3 stories about vampires. The first story by Rebecca York was good but not as good as her werewolf books. B The second one by Rosemary Laurey was my favorite, and the only really good one in the book.A The 3rd story by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom was confusing and the worst of the 3. It made me not want to read anything else by her. F
• Essence of Midnight by various- 3 fantasy stories all set about a glass bottle. The whole book was just kinda of blah to me. Not too exciting. I didn't finish the last story. C-
• A Bite to Remember by Lynsay Sands- 5th in her vampire series, and my favorite so far. Vincent was not stand-offish as the heros in the last 4 books, he had more depth to me and was more likable. I hope the next books in the series are as good as this one, and not like the previous ones. A+
• Date Me, Baby, One More Time by Stephanie Rowe- A paranormal about the Guardian of the Goblet of Eternal Youth. I loved this book. It was hilarious and the story came out great. The relationship between the H/H was more realistic then most romance books, even though they were honest about needing to kill eachother. A
• Spanish Disco by Erica Orloff- A chick list book with a more serious side. It is about an editor who has to deal with her sick father, a reclusive author, and facing the truth about her relationship with an author she only knows by the phone. This book made me laugh and almost made me cry, and I am looking forward to reading more by the author. A+
• Kick @$$ by various. 4 stories about kick ass women. The first one by Maggie Shayne is about a DEA agent who has lost her memory. I liked this story, and I'd like to see Shayne write more like it. The 2nd one was by MaryJanice Davidson set in her vampire world. About an albino vampire slayer named Boo who finds out she is working for a vampire. Great as always, I love MJD no matter what she is writing. The 3rd story by Angela Knight is set in the future, in the same world as her book Jane's Warlord. It is about 2 cyborg warriors, a warfem and warlord. I really liked this story, and it has made me bump up Jane's Warlord in my TBR. The last story is by Jacey Ford about a supermodel CIA agent. It was not as good as the other 3 stories, but it held my interest and it could have been worse. Overall I give the book an A
  

October ratings

Hunters Moon ( by CT Adams & Cathy Clamp)  A+ I enjoyed the uniqueness of the hero. He was different than normal in his chosen occupation and his take on everything.

Moon's Web ( by CT Adams & Cathy Clamp) A I enjoyed this second book in the series. It had elements that were never expected and the returning characters from book 1 were just as interesting in this book.

Touch Of Evil ( by CT Adams & Cathy Clamp) B I am not sure about why I didn't care for this new series by an author team I really like other than I may be too old to enjoy the storyline. Dunno.

The Last Mercenary ( by Diana Palmer) B I wanted to reread this book I had lost many years ago and  so I WL it here. I enjoyed it just on its being part of a series by Palmer that I wanted to reread in its entirety once I got this last lost book. I just think I have grown away from Palmer.

Dark Need (by Lynn Viehl) B+ This was the 3rd book in this series, Lucan's story.  I do like this author. The book was interesting although the language used to describe characters in the begining was a bit odd till I got into the book. I enjoyed this installation.

Tempting The Devil ( by Patricia Potter) A This was a great romantic suspense, action packed through out. The emotional romance was complemented by the suspense ans the secondary characters were as well developed as the main characters.

Mysteria {by MJD, PC Cast, G.Showalter, S.Grant} A This book was fun to read, as werid as I expected, and as enjoyable as I hoped.

• Extreme Bachelor by Julia London: Michael left Leah five years ago, without telling her the reason was he was special-ops CIA. They meet again again at a movie studio she is an actress and his company does the stunts.  They have a rocky on again off again, rekindling of their relantionship (she is the only woman Michael has ever been in love with).   Rated A-
• The Accidental Virgin by Valerie Frankel:  It has been almost a year since Stacy has had sex.  She tries for a week to have sex, and she comes so close, but something always happens to prevent it (some funnies here).  Rated A
• Savannah Blue's by  Mary Kay Andrews : Set in Savannah GA; Weezie is accused of murdering her ex-husbands girlfriend, she becomes reaquainted with an old high school sweetheart and uncovers an antique furniture reproduction scam.  Rated A
• Wyoming Kid by Debbie Macomber: Lonny is a retired rodeo cowboy Joy is a school teacher, it has taken Lonny two years to realize that he is in love with Joy, now he has to convience her that she is in love with him before she moves back to Seattle with her ex-boyfriend.  Rated: A 
• Bare Necessity by Carole Matthews: (Audio Cassette), Emily is shocked to learn that her boyfriend has posted her Christmas picture meant only for him on the internet at a porn site. Rated A

Cool ladies. Loved reading what everyone thought of the books they read. Now for me to actually do that too.

Ash...I have 6 of the books you mentioned in my immediate TBR pile and have been seriously leaning toward some of them. Looks like I am in for some good reading. Actually I have to read Bite to Remember soon as it is a library book (didn't want to wait months to get my hands on it through here LOL).

My August Reads:

1. Simply Unforgettable-Mary Balogh-Lead in . . . Frances Allard is returning to Miss Martin's School for Girls in Bath, where she is the French and music teacher, after spending Christmas with her great-aunts in Somersetshire. She hoped for snow all over the holiday, and it has finally come--when she no longer wants it. The journey, in her great-aunts' ancient traveling carriage, with their elderly coachman at the ribbons, is soon made very difficult indeed by the worsening conditions.  This was a great story and I wanted to be trapped with the Viscount at the inn!        A-
2. Ain't She Sweet-Susan Elizabeth Phillips- This is a story about a woman coming home to receive her comeuppance.  Once I started reading I couldn't put it down.  I wanted to hate Sugar Beth Carey, but I found myself rooting for her.     A
3. Isle of Palms-Dorothea Benton Frank-gave up reading...just couldn't get into it.  It's a Lowcountry Tale being told by the main character.   It is like she is talking to you about her story.  To be honest, the book didn't grab me in the first 30 pages or so.  I was bored reading it.  It is a novel, not really a romance.  Perhaps that is why I didn't  like it.      D
4. Northern Lights-Nora Roberts-This book takes place in Lunatic, Alaska.  What a great name for a town!  It has romance and suspense and to me a surprise ending.  I haven't read Nora in awhile and this reminded me why she is my favorite author!     A
5. Winter Fire-Elizabeth Lowell-This is the first book I have read by Elizabeth Lowell and it was a great introduction to her.  She writes characters you can really believe in.  This is a post-Civil War book that takes place in Utah Territory.  She tells a great story.     A-
6. A Matter of Scandal-Suzanne Enoch-This is a cute book set in 19th century England about a Duke who does not believe in educating women.  The headmistress at the girls' school on his uncle's estate vows to prove him wrong!  A cute story, entertaining.   B+
7. The Princess-Jude Deveraux-This book is set in 1942 and is about an attempt on a princess' life while visiting America.  She is saved by a Lieutenant in the army and he is "stuck" with her until they can find the would be assassin.  I wasn't sure at first if I l iked the book, but as I read I found that I really began to like the characters and I wanted to know what happened to them.    A-
8. Flowers From the Storm-Laura Kinsale- A story of a rakehell Duke and the Quaker miss that helps him truly find himself after being sent to an insane asylum.  An interesting read, but some parts were confusing, such as why he ended up in the asylum.  Overall though, the main characters are interesting and a great love story.   A-
9. Lonesome Ryder?/Restaurant Romeo-Carol Finch-This is a Harlequin Duets book.  I am not usually a reader of Harlequin romance, but I decided to give it a try.  I found all of the usual trappings of a Harlequin, but a fun staory at the same time.  I found that I really liked the characters in the book, and for the most part they could be real people.  Of course the virgin who can't get enough the first time thing is played out.  These stories are about the gorgeous Ryder cousins and the women who make them want to be better!  I was actually upset to find that Finch has yet to write the stories of the remaining 2 cousins.     B+
10. Twin of Ice/Twin of Fire-Jude Deveraux-Two great stories about identical twin sisters who are complete opposites.  The stories are mirrors of each other and after you read the story about the first sister you read the second story and it fills in all the holes from the first story.  I loved this book.  A

Beyind the Highland Mist-Karen Marie Moning-Now I know what all the hubbub is about!  I love this series.  This is a time travel book set in Scotland.  Adrienne has been hurt by a "beautiful" man and refuses to fall for another pretty face...that is until she meets the Hawk.  It really was a great love story with great characters.     A

To Tame a Highland Warrior-Karen Marie Moning-The second in the series and if I wasn't addicted before, now I am!  This story is about Grimm, Hawk's best friend.  He is a legenary Berserker and believes he is not meant for true love....until he returns to where he spent his teen years and the one woman who may just make him believe in himself again.     A
13. Branded Hearts-Shannon Drake-A story of revenge and love set in the west.  Some parts of the story seem far fetched, but that is how romance works!   B+
14. The Highlander's Touch-Karen Marie Moning-The third in the Highlander's series.  All I can say is I love it.    A
15. Last Chance-Jill Marie Landis-Rachel McKenna, the Sheriff's widow has a reuunion with Lane Cassidy, her former student.  10 years have gone by and neither has forgotten the other, although both for sifferent reasons.  Lane helps Rachel realize she is not frigid as her late husband had told her many times.  However, Lane is also a known gun fighter and not helping with Rachel's reputation.  A good love story with characters you can really like.   B+ 
16. Glory-Heather Graham-  This was a Civil War story about two people from opposite side who end up falling in love.  It took awhile to get into it and in the end I wanted to know more about the secondary charaters than the hero and heroine.  Overall it was an okay story.   C+
17. Wild Abandon-Cassie Edwards-This book is set right after the Civil War.  Lauralee finally finds her father 15 years after the end of the war and he is dying.  He sends for his friend, Joe Dancing Cloud to take her to her Aunt and Uncle.  During their journey they fall in love.  The rest of their story tells of their trials of being a white woman and an Indian in love.  Overall, not a bad story.  Pretty entertaining.   B-
18. Rebel Heat-Judith Steel-Another book set after the Civil War.  The heroine is a white woman who spent much of her life with the Apaches.  She ends up on a ranch with her white brother.  He is killed in the war and the hero winds up at her ranch.  They fall in love, but of course there is something that stands in the way of their love.  Not an award winner, but entertaining.     B-
19. The Price of Indiscretion-Cathy Maxwell-This romance takes you from the "savage" land of Ohio to England.  The heroine was in love with a half-breed , but they were separated by pride.  10 years later they meet again and find they still have a strong connection.  Of course a duke gets in the way.  Overall a good book.  Anxious to read next book about heroine's sister, if it is ever released!   B+
20. Two Brothers-Linda Lael Miller-This book contains the stories of twin brothers who were separated at birth, but find each other later.  Of course each one finds a woman to love and begin families together.  I would have liked a little more character development, but I was entertained.  All the characters were very likeable.   B
21. The Bodyguard-Joan Johnston-This is the first book by Joan Johnston I have read and I really liked it.  I liked her characters and the story kept me interested.  I look forward to reading more by her.  This book was set in Rengency Scotland and, well, you'll have to read it to find out more!      A
22. After the Kiss-Joan Johnston-I found that I had another Johnston book in my TBR and I was so glad!  This book actually comes before The Bodyguard.  I usually hate to read out of order, but I made an exception.  I am also trying to get the first and last books in the series...of course I need a boxer to actually accept a BOB and so far I have had nothing but declines...I will try not to take it personally.  Anyway, it was a good one!     A
23. Conquer the Night-Shannon Drake-this story takes place in 13th century Scotland.  The Scottish were fighting for their homeland from the English.  This is a story of vengeance for the death of the hero's wife, but he finds that he falls in love with the betrothed of his enemy.  It was a great story...apparently the second in a series that now I find I must read!    A

The Seduction of an English Scoundrel - Jullian Hunter  A-

I really enjoyed this one, the story is about a woman who was jilted at the alter and the hero "helps" her get back into society. The heroine in this story wasn't a doormat and the dialog was really witty with scenes such as:

"Married?" he said lifting his hand to his heart in mock horror. "Heavens above, someone put a gun in my mouth."

She narrowed her eyes at him. "Continue in this manner, and it is not outside the realm of possibility."  

Never Seduce A Scoundrel - Sabrina Jeffries - C

I usually love her books but this one just didn't thrill me. The heroine was spunky (which I like) but when a book is all about someone keeping a secret from the other I just want throw the book against the wall.

Definitely Dead - Charlaine Harris (ack, didn't get to finish, I had to take it back to the library.)

An Affair Most Wicked - Julianne MacLean - C-

I really wanted to like this one but half way through I lost interest. It started out intriguing, not the same old same old, but towards the end I didn't even want to finish it.

The Fairy Godmother - Mercedes Lackey - C

This one also started out interesting, the author incorporated a lot of fairy tales such as Cinderella and others (blanking on the other ones). But as the story went on she went into soooo much detail about everything that I lost interest in this book. The heroine didn't meet the hero until half way through the book and by then I was skimming the book to finish it.

Oracle - Katherine Greyle - D -Well, didn't like this one much either. The plot was really far fetched even though it's a futuristic. Ended up skimming this one also.

Almost a Goddess (Judi McCoy) B
Zeus is fickle, full of bluster and none too happy with his under-performing Muses, Kyra, Chloe and Zoe. He sentences the goddesses to toil for a year on Earth inspiring mortals, and decrees (somewhat arbitrarily) that they are not to fall in love, lest they face exile from Mount Olympus. This is the story of Kyra. I found the story light, fast, and fun.

Tall, Dark & Dead (Tate Hallaway) C
Garnet Lacy, who is hiding from the witch-slaying Vatican agents known as the Order of Eustace figures it's best to hide in plain sight, so she acquires a job managing an occult bookstore. Garnet has no desire to hook up with anybody the least bit magical, until Sebastian Von Traum walks in looking for mandrake root. This book has had really rave reviews, but for me the story fell flat. The writer didn't do the story justice to make it believable, and the plot was thin. Not sure I'll read anything else from this writer.

Hunter's Moon (C.T. Adams & Cathy Clamp) B -
It took me awhile to get into this book, as its told from the viewpoint of the man. The story line is good. Its about a werewolf and a lottery winner who is very insecure. But there were times I just wanted to throttle both main characters.

sMothering (Wendy French) A
Loved this book! I didn't think I would, its about a mom who shows up on her daughter's doorstep one day unexpected, and all kinds of chaos takes form. Really fast paced, and strong characters.

The Diva's Guide to Selling Your Soul (Kathleen O'Reilly) A-
The heroine of this book is a woman who has sold her soul to the devil and is in a 10-step plan. Meaning, after so many souls, she moves up in levels and has more powers available to her. It started out a bit slow, but as I got into the story and its several layers, I really enjoyed it.

One Wish (C.J. Card) B-
For years, a beautiful bottle lay concealed in a forgotten trunk--holding a powerful spirit, waiting for someone to come along and make one wish... When Jenny Blake comes along and frees the genie, he's ready to make her dreams come true, and then retire. And even though it's the modern year of 1899, she accepts his help. But when the true love she seeks is the one man she thinks she can't stand, it's up to the genie to make these two mortals see the light! A light fast read with an historical overview. The genie is humourous and the story is written pretty well for the most part.. I gave this one a B- because at times the heroines character was flat and the story was boring.

Seize the Night (Sherrilyn Kenyon) A
What can I say about another dark-hunter book but WOW ! Loved this one in the series, yet was really thrown a few yards with what happens with Nick and Simi. Didn't see those coming at all! Can't wait to read the next in the series ! Va Va Va Voom:D

Charmed & Dangerous (Candace Havens) B+
A story about a high witch and a small suspense included of who dunnit of the people she is protecting.  A fast, light read.

Enchanted, Inc (Shanna Swendson) B+
Ordinary girl with no magical qualities is courted by a magical company. I really enjoyed this "fantasy" novel about fairies and Merlin and talking gargoyles.

Daughter of the Flame (Nancy Holden) B-
It took me a bit to get into this book, about an Italian girl with qualities she doesn't understand (physic and magical power) and how she learns who and what she is. It got a bit confusing for me and I had to go back and re-read some pages to understand where the author was taking me. But it was a decent read/plot.

The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown) A+
I wanted to make sure I read the book first before I see the movie. It was an excellent read that was fast paced and kept me intrigued wondering what would happen next. The religious aspect clouds alot of the pages but are important to the storyline. The only drawback I had was that I know Tom Hanks plays the main character in the movie, so when I read this book of course that is who I "thought" the main character looked and talked like. A bit of a spoiler. But overall an excellent read!

Angel with Attitude (Michelle Rowan) A
Cute book about an angel "booted" from Heaven for abusing one of the seven sins. All "fallen" angels are assigned a demon temptor from Hell. He tries to tempt her to come with him, all the while she is trying to get back to her cloud.  She also makes friends with a talking rat, which brings some humor to the story. Its a fun, light read with a hint of paranormal and romance.

Night's Edge (Maggie Shayne & Others) A-
Three fun paranormal reads with a touch of romance and suspense.

Sins of the Night (Sherrilyn Kenyon) A
Another great dark-hunter book. Kept me up most of the night turning the pages. Can't wait to read the next one!
