There's nothing like a beer for supper. That is what George Washington would have said---he loved his porter---and many other early American leaders too.
As I also have one with supper, I have a big interest in beers. And this book filled in so many questions about beer in early America.
As I have a degree in Political Science, I found it interesting the differences between the states with small populations and those with large, or potentially large, populations, which seemed to disrupt the attempt to form a more efficient political union during the arguments at Independence Hall, were actually settled over beer in the evening at a local tavern. Thus was formed the United States of America.
And this is just one amazing way beer helped our country grow.
And who knew you could make beer from corn stalks or pumpkins? One chapter in the book is devoted to early home brewing recipes.
