The nicest thing I can say about this book is that it is a hot mess. I love Charles Rivers' books but this is unsalvageable. The only things I learned about the Antonine Plague was that it lasted 15 years, killed half of the Roman soldiers, and killed 30% of the citizens. The rest of this is a mish-mash of stories about the Five Good Emperors, the great physician Galen, and persecuting Christians.
