One of my favorite series of all time. I have a small complaint with this particular edition. Nowhere does it indicate *which* three volumes are included. I assumed it would be the first three books of the sequence, but not so. The three in this book are "Anne of Green Gables", "Anne of Avonlea", and "Anne's House of Dreams." It skips over "Anne of the Island," and that's the book where all the good stuff happens.

I already loved the story. Now I love this book & plan to read more by the author. However there is such a jump between the 2nd & 3rd novel it left me feeling like I missed something. Now I will have to track down the other novels!
Anne is an imaginative, fiery red-headed, 10 yr old orphan who is accidentally sent to the Cuthberts, instead of the boy they thought they were getting.
What follows are the misadventures of her adolescence, full of laughter & a few tears.
Anne is such an inspiring character, reminding us to look at life with the glass half full. I loved reading about her growing up on Prince Edward Island & now want to go there someday to see it's beauty for myself.
Truly a classic to be shared with my granddaughter & passed down.

This compendium would be better if it included all of the stories. There seems to be a book missing somewhere before the last one which interrupts the flow of the storyline.
An enjoyable classic, nevertheless, but if you are sharing with a youngster be warned that there is a lot of vocabulary and verbosity. It is hard to read out loud, due to the main character's tendency to ramble on.

Anne (with an e' of course) Shirley starts out as a mistake. The elderly Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert had planned on adopting a boy to help Matthew with the chores on their Prince Edward Island farm. What are they to do with the red-haired, high-spirited girl who arrives instead? This is a great children series especially for little girls. I loved Anne's spirit, her imagination and her adventures. She would be a great friend and a fun playmate. Highly recommended and a great look at life on Prince Edward Island. A must classic read for young and old.
