Having an opportunity to listen to this book, instead of reading it, I was immediately aware of the problem with this method of learning about amber. A map is absolutely critical for understanding the trails and travels of amber over the Ancient World. The Amber Road has received far less mention than the Silk Road or the Incense Trade Route.
Amber is the hardened sap of prehistoric trees, when washing up on Baltic shores, was found to be popular as trade goods with foreign civilizations. It comes from the resin of an extinct pine tree in Northeast Europe. It was one of the luxurious goods traded as early as the Bronze Age.
But where I really missed reading this book was when the Amber Room(s) were mentioned. I had to find a copy of this book so I could see those exquisite rooms. They are awe-inspiring.  Therefore, my recommendation would be to read, rather than listen to this book. I would have liked to have seen more samples of amber in the book. How is it used now? Is it still available? Fortunately, this book offers lots of options for further reading.
