A fascinating read and definitely the most convoluted mystery I've ever read. In some cases---as in the several chapters when the police finally explain what took place as they identify the criminals--- you just have to suspend your belief in reality and accept this entertaining story as it is.
It helps to understand the author wrote this mystery and two others as parodies of the mystery genre. I think this story---with some minor additions---would have made a wonderful Marx Brothers' movie.
