I read this book during the week of the 4th of July and found it to be a good beach read, but not one of Patterson's best. There were some interesting twists and turns, but it wasn't a nail biter like so many of his other books are. The dialogue between the characters was less than stimulating, but fortunately the storyline was better. And as always, the surprise ending was a surprise. Not in a knock-your-socks-off kind of way, but a surprise all the same.

To get to an "average" novel length, SF cop Lindsay Boxer is involved in two stories at once. While she is being sued for wrongful death in her police work, she also helps solve a serial killer case that goes back ten years to her first police homicide case. It was an exciting read; I will probably read more of his work.

I read this in two sessions. I have really been drawn in to the characters in this series and just needed to know what was going to happen!

This was good, and had some twists and turns that I didn't expect. However, the ending left a lot to be desired...it seemed like it wrapped up entirely too quickly and left some unanswered questions into motive and consequences. However, it was a good addition to the Women's Murder Club series!!

Another great book by James. The 4th book I believe in the Murders Club group of women. You will enjoy it.

Great book. 4th in the Women's Murder Club series. Kept you guessing until the very end who the killer was. Never saw it coming.

As always, I had a hard time putting this book down. It took only 2 days to read it and I enjoyed it all.
This story had not one but 2 murders to solve; and as usual the "girls", even without Jill, were up to their elbows in it.
Seems the "Club" has picked up a new member, a lawyer!
However, this time, Lt. Boxer solved the second murder by herself!
Loved it!

I love, love, love this series! This has got to be the best one yet! I can't wait to read #5! This is a page turner to the very end and kept me guessing every step of the way! Started it Monday afternoon and if I hadn't needed to go to bed so I could get up for work I would have finished it.. I couldn't wait to get back to it and I wasn't disappointed! I've never cared much for Patterson until this series!

This is the fourth installment of the Women's Murder Club. While Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer is on trial for wrongful death, she's also helping to solve a ten year old murder, her first murder case. This is a very good read. I found it very hard to put this book down.

Another very good Lindsay Boxer book. Has you rooting for her all the way!
Helpful Score: 1
This storyline was good but different than the first two. It focused more on Lindsay than the relationship between the women but it does introduce the "newest" member of the club. The thing I didn't like was when she was brought on, it was sort of like an oversight. All the sudden there she was. But aside from that, Patterson does a good job of digging just a little bit more into who Lindsay is and what makes her tick.

Fourth in the Lindsay Boxer series that was made into the TV series, "Woman's Murder Club."
In a deadly late-night showdown, San Francisco police lieutenant Lindsay Boxer fires her weapon... and sets off a dramatic chain of events that leaves a police force disgraced, a family destroyed, and Lindsay herself at the mercy of twelve jurors. During a break in the trial, she retreats to a picturesque town that is reeling from a string of grisly murders - crimes that bear a link to a haunting, unsolved case from her rookie years. Now, with her friends in the Women's Murder Club, Lindsay must battle for her life on two fronts; in a trial rushing to a climax, and against an unknown adversary willing to do anything to hide the truth about the homicides - including kill again.

Another great Lindsey Boxer story!
This book is part of the Women's Murder Club Series. Police Lt. Lindsay Boxer fires her weapon and sets off a series of events that puts her on trial. A second story unfolds around her as she takes a leave of absence. A longtime fan of James Patterson, (who co-writes with Maxine Paetro this time) I always enjoy his books and this was no exception.
I received this book through PaperBackSwap on Wednesday. Picked it up to start reading it on Thursday afternoon and could not put it down until I finished it in the wee hours of Friday morning.

I love James Patterson and was really looking forward to "4th of July" because I live in the Half Moon Bay area (where the bulk of the book is set). Don't get me wrong....I really enjoyed the book, but I had a hard time with the "poetic license" he took with the area. (I have the same issue with TV shows that have to do with medical stuff or the San Francisco Bay Area.)
If you like James Patterson, you will love the book. However, don't plan on visiting Half Moon Bay in the summer if you are planning on sun. It's usually foggy!

A fast paced police procedural. It's interesting that the chapters are only 3 pages long but the text keeps you reading to the end. Lindsey Boxer, one of the Murder Club members is trying to 'chill' during a tense court case. She tries to relax at her sister's house and falls into the middle of a serial murder case that she recognizes as similiar to a cold case she never could solve.
Very interesting twist at the end. Keeps you turning pages!

As with all Women's Murder Club books, this one is a roller coaster ride
In a deadly late-night showdown, San Francisco police lieutenant Lindsay Boxer fires her weapon... and sets off a dramatic chain of events that leaves a police force disgraced, a family destroyed, and Lindsay herself at the mercy of twelve jurors. During a break in the trial, she retreats to a pictuesque town that is reeling from a string of grisly murders-crimes that bear a link to a haunting, unsolved case from her rookie years. Now, with her friends in the Women's Murder Club, Lindsay must battle for her life on two fronts: in a trial rushing to a climax, and against an unknown adversary willing to do anything to hide the truth about the homicides - including kill again....
Lt. Lindsay Boxer is battling police brutality charges while chasing down a clan of murderers. When a botched police arrest of two gun-toting minors expands from a shaky preliminary hearing to what promises to be a nerve-rattling jury trial of Lindsay, she flees the pre-trial media frenzy for the serene haven of sister Cat's house in Half Moon Bay. But instead of finding relaxation and romance with her Homeland Security beau, Lindsay becomes embroiled in the ruthless crimes of a troika of killers who've been slashing and flogging victims all over town. With surprisingly little aid from the Murder Club, Lindsay performs her detective handiwork (and steps on the toes of Half Moon's police chief). As more bodies surface, sketchy suspects like a smitten grease monkey and a slimy porn star emerge, then the murderous threesome set their sights on Lindsay.
Incredible heart-stopper. Lots of murders, still can't figure out how many perps there were.
Another great, can't put it down, book from Patterson
not one of my favorites.

Another awesome Womens Murder Club Mystery. The short chapters make the books awesome, and so easy to read. They books are impossible to put down the way it is. James Patterson has created a series for women about some amazing women.
After losing one of its own, Lindsay Boxer and the Womens Murder Club make a courageous return for their fourth and most chilling case ever--one that could easily be their last.
A young girl is killed in crossfire after a routine arrest goes terribly wrong, and Lt. Lindsay Boxer has to defend herself against a charge of police brutality. In a landmark trial that transfixes the nation, Lindsay fights to save her career and her sanity.
While awaiting trial, Lindsay escapes to the beautiful town of Half Moon Bay, but the peaceful community there is reeling from a string of unspeakable murders. Working with her friends in the Womens Murder Club, Lindsay finds a link between these killings and a case she worked on years before--an unsolved murder that has haunted her ever since.
As summer comes into full swing, Lindsay battles for her life on two fronts: before a judge and jury as her trial comes to a climax, and facing unknown adversaries who will do anything to keep her from the truth about the killings--including killing again. It all comes to a head before the big annual 4th of July celebration on the waterfront at Half Moon Bay.

Excellent
In a late-night showdown after a near-fatal car chase, San Francisco police lieutenant Lindsay Boxer has to make an instantaneous decision: in self-defense, she fires her weapon -- and sets off a chain of events that leaves a police force disgraced, an entire city divided, and a family destroyed. Now everything she's worked her entire life for hinges on the decision of twelve jurors.
To escape scrutiny during breaks from her trial, Lindsay retreats to the picturesque town of Half Moon Bay. But soon after her arrival, a string of grisly murders punches through the peaceful community. There are no witnesses and there is no discernible pattern. But a key detail recalls a case Lindsay worked on as a rookie years before -- an unsolved murder that has haunted her ever since. As summer comes into full swing, Lindsay and her friends in the Women's Murder Club battle for her life on two fronts: before a judge and jury as her trial comes to a climax, and facing unknown adversaries who will do anything to keep her from the truth about the killings -- including killing again.

The kids father decides to create a suit ahgaint Lindsay even though she was doing the right thing by defending her dying partner and herself. Her lawyer reccommends going to Lindsay's sisters house so she can stay out of the limelight. While there Joe visits her a few times;)wink wink;) and also a killer visits her. Couples have been murdered and Lindsay is desperate to find out who comited the crime. She goes through loops with the local police and loops with the Murder Club.

good fast read especially if you have ever been in hot water
First time I was disappointed in the ending! He should stick to writing his own by himself. :( Still a very fast read as always.
The best book in the series so far!!!!
Excellent page-turner - couldn't put this book down.

Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer is involved in a shooting that causes her to be charged with police brutality. Relieved of duty while awaiting trial, Lindsay travels to Half Moon Bay, only to find this community experiencing a rash of murders. With Yuki Castellano fighting for Lindsay in the courtroom and the murders in Half Moon Bay escalating, the Women's Murder Club cranks into full form. Carolyn McCormick drives this fast-paced, high-powered novel right off the printed page into real experience. A whining, pleading injured teen driving with only a learner's permit is so skillfully presented that danger is ignored; a spinal-cord-injured witness whose sobs are interrupted by the sucking of ventilator-initiated breathing is believable even while demonstrating courtroom theatrics.
Read book..very good
received books rapidly--great to work with

Publisher's Weekly: "Heoric super-sleuthing, a steady gripping plot line, and snappy chapters add up to a fiction euphoria" And I whole-heartedly agree. A very good read.

Pretty much standard Lindsay Boxer book. I like them and they help me keep mind off of daily issues so I can get to sleep :-)
Police Lt. Lindsay Boxer is on trial for a shooting that was in self-defence. She must fight for her life in a trial and against a killer who wants to hide the truth.
My favorite in the Womens Murder Club series so far.
The best of the Women's Murder Club! Couldn't put it down.

Another great Woman's Murder Club book!
In "4th of July", the fourth installment of Patterson's Women's Murder Club, SFPD homicide detective Lindsay Boxer finds herself on trial for her professional life. A pull-over after a wild car chase goes entirely sour and results in Lindsay killing a female minor and seriously wounding a male minor condemning him to life as a wheelchair-confined machine-assisted quadriplegic. Boxer finds herself staring down the barrel of a lawsuit for "wrongful death, excessive use of force, and professional misconduct" filed by the parents with a potential price tag of $100 million in damages. While Boxer's attorney, Yuki Castellano, the newest initiate to the Women's Murder Club, is outwardly poised and confident that she can clear her client, the trial's outcome is far from certain and Patterson has treated us to some truly electric courtroom drama!
Plot number two - on administrative leave to deal with the trial, Boxer has sought seclusion in the quaint town of Half Moon Bay. But the peaceful quiet of her chosen cloister is shattered as the town's residents are menaced by a series of brutal murders. Boxer twigs to an uncanny resemblance to an unsolved John Doe murder from very early in the rookie stages of her career and she reaches the decision to involve herself in the investigation. From that point, Patterson takes Boxer, the local police force, Half Moon Bay's local population and his unsuspecting readers careening down a taut, tension-filled road that's chock-a-block full of twists and turns and slams us all into a climax that nobody but nobody will see coming.
While the two plots are very loosely connected only through the literary device of Boxer's administrative leave, they are cleverly juxtaposed and the two stories become nicely crafted into a seamless whole. Story #2 is a typically well-done thriller that easily succeeds in fulfilling any expectations Patterson fans will have as a result of his long list of past best-sellers but I think Story #1 is the more interesting of the two. Not your typical thriller brain candy, Patterson raises some serious hot-button issues related to minors and violent crime that won't leave a single reader sitting on the sidelines. As I read, there was more than one occasion on which my own opinions on the issues surfaced and I found myself getting quite warm under the collar. Well done, Patterson!
While I look forward to the next two Women's Murder Club novels, "The 5th Horseman" and "The 6th Target", it is my critical hope that Patterson will return to the original style of "1st to Die" and let the entire club figure more prominently in the novels and the solution to their plots. "4th of July" was clearly a Lindsay Boxer novel with the other members of her "club" being granted no more than token cameo walk-ons.
That said, "4th of July" worked well and comes recommended from this reader. Enjoy!
